I have to be honest. I’m highly invested in this product. I mean, I really, really want it to work. It’s not just because I spent my entire childhood in the bright Hawaiian sun or because my college years were mostly spent soaking up the California rays–although that does have something to do with it. I want this serum to work because my face is speckled and spotted with what’s left of those foregone years. And while I’ve spent the past few years taking much better care of my skin, I can’t seem to get rid of all those brown spots. So, yes, I really want this serum to work. But mostly, I’m just a woman with the spots that my girlhood left me with, hoping for clear, smooth, glowing skin that I get as a result of using luxuriously, non-toxic, clean beauty products. And is that really too much to ask? I really hope not.
Needless to say, when Beautycounter released their c serum I was very excited. I’ve been so desperate to get rid of these spots that I’ve done a tone of research on the subject. There have been several times when I’ve almost pressed the buy button on other c serums but I just couldn’t do it. I have to know that all the ingredients in a product are safe before I will put them on my skin, and there are just very few brands that I trust to get that right. So when Beautycounter introduced their c serum, I jumped in and got two bottles. I just used it for the first time today, and I’ve got a lot to say about it. So without further ado, here is my honest (and very hopeful) review of Beautycounter Counter+ All Bright C Serum.

What is Beautycounter?

What Is It?
Beautycounter Counter+ All Bright Vitamin C Serum
Camucamu is actually a super fruit known as Youth Berry. Youth Berry is really rich in amino acids that boost the skin’s ability to absorb vitamin c. It has 50 times the vitamin c of an orange. Camucamu is a super booster in this serum. Turmeric is an antioxidant that helps to brighten the skin tone and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
What It Does
The main purpose of this serum is to protect from and reverse the signs of UV damage. It provides antioxidant protection, brightens and evens skin tone and provides collagen support for youthful skin. It also inhibits melanin synthesis to brighten your skin and really help.
Why Is It Different?
One of the main differences between this C Serum and so many on the market is Beautycounter’s standards. This brand has really high safety standards.
Another major difference is that it doesn’t use Ascorbic Acid. If you’ve used a Vitamin C product in the past, chances are it has ascorbic acid listed in the ingredients. And while ascorbic acid is widely used in vitamin c products, it is unstable in water. Over time ascorbic acid looses its efficacy. It is very tricky to work with. It actually degrades over time and so, companies often use high levels of ascorbic acid knowing that over time it degrades. If used often, it can be irritating to the skin.
Beautycounter All Bright C Serum doesn’t use ascorbic acid at all. Instead, it uses 2 forms of stable vitamin C sourced from Japan that deliver the optimum 10% vitamin C amount. The first is a water-soluble form that is immediately available to the skin. The second is oil-soluble that releases over time. That is going to give you that all day brightening effect. And the oil-soluble form also gives you that immediate brightening effect.
Another difference is that it has clinically proven results. It has been shown to even skin tone and improve skin radiance and brightness.
Consumer Studies were as follows:

Additionally, it is made without gluten, soy or peanuts. It’s vegan and bunny certified and is safe enough for pregnant women to use. It is basically safe for everyone.

It took a bit of doing but I listed all the ingredients and what they are used for. I’m learning as I write.
- Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate: Antioxidant-rich form of vitamin C that reduces the appearance of dark spots and boosts skin brightening to reveal more youthful-looking skin.
- Bis-Glyceryl Ascorbate: Antioxidant-rich, moisturizing form of vitamin C that protects skin from damaging environmental stressors–and helps improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Turmeric Root Extract – Antioxidant that helps even skin tone and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Camu Camu Fruit Extract aka Myciaria Dubia Fruit Extract – Antioxidant that helps reduce the appearance of dark spots while brightening to visually improve signs of skin fatigue.
- Water – Hydrates
- Propanediol – Solvent, controls consistency
- Pentylene Glycol – Made from corn or sugar cane. Used as a humectant, skin conditioning, solvent.
- Coconut Alkanes – Sourced from coconuts. Used as an emollient, solvent, sensory enhancer.
- Glycerin – Sustainably sourced from palm, coconut, rapeseed and/or sunflower. Used as an emollient, humectant and viscosity controlling solvent. Also used in place of fragrance.

Beautycounter Vitamin C Serum Directions
Here’s what I’ve learned about using this product. All Bright C Serum is a treatment step which means it should be used after you wash and tone your face.
How to Use Beautycounter All Bright C Serum:
Step 1: After cleansing and toning, use your regimen’s regular serum, and follow that with a layer of All Bright C Serum.
Step 2: Apply one to two pumps to face, neck and décolletage.
Step 3: Follow with moisturizer.
My Beautycounter Vitamin C Serum Review
The first thing I noticed was the packaging. I love the packaging! The glass bottle is a bright yellow color that feels really cheery. I love that Beautycounter has made the switch to glass. I also love the sleek design of the bottle. I also noticed that the top doesn’t have a plastic lid on it. Bravo to Beautycounter for coming up with a way to reduce the amount of plastic used.
The product itself is made up of a smooth gel and is a brilliant yellow color. The smell is a bit…interesting. It’s not a terrible smell, but it’s not the best smell I’ve ever smelled either. I’ve been told that it has to do with the turmeric.
The serum goes on really smooth and I noticed an immediate glow after just one use. I had heard a lot of hype about this product with consultants swearing up and down that their skin glowed after just one use. I wasn’t so sure. But I can tell you that they were absolutely right. On the day that I tried it for the first time, I just kept shocking myself when I went to the mirror. I couldn’t believe how healthy and radiant my skin looked. It even seemed bright when I turned off the lights. Not kidding. I took some selfies–okay, I took way too many selfies–but that’s because I just couldn’t believe it. This serum really works.
Update (as of 2/17/21): It’s been almost a year since I started using Beautycounter All Bright C Serum and my verdict has changed. I am even more convinced that this product is liquid gold. It is absolutely one of my favorite skincare products. I was FaceTime-ing with my family and they teased me about my face. It was super early in the morning for me and apparently my skin looked really great because they all started commenting amongst themselves saying, “This is what Like looks like when she wakes up!” It made me feel really good. And all I can say is, that while I’ve been using Beautycounter products for over 3 years now, I didn’t start getting comments like this until I added the vitamin c-serum from Beautycounter.
Final Thoughts on the Beautycounter All Bright C Serum
I fully recommend this serum. This quite possibly is my favorite Beautycounter product to date. If you’ve been wanting a C-serum that is as safe as it is effective, then you’ve found it. I think you’ll love it as much as I do. I truly believe it will really help your skin.
